@Pat - eh, I'm with you on that Ask needs to take a different approach but I'd be really heartbroken to see them change their colors completely and suddenly become the engine favored by packs of rabid 8-year-olds (especially since, as Susan tells me, marketing to children is sort of illegal). Ask needs to exploit the holes left by Google -- both in their advertising network, in search, in their dealings with privacy, etc. There's room for a four engine world. People want it. Ask needs to make it happen.

@Jim - Thanks for the exercise! I will give it a go. :)

Hi Lisa. Agreed on Ask but more concerned about your wrist. Don't screw up your hands, wrists or arms, or Ask really will have a longer history than you do in search.
Take a second to do the following...
1/ Sit up straight
2/ Extend your right arm forward, palm down until the elbow locks.
3/ With your left hand, hold on to the fingers of your right hand and pull upwards. You should feel a strain going from wrist to your back. (That is a good thing).
4/ Hold this position for a couple of seconds. If your body resists or stresses right up, let go and see your doctor. You should be stretching all the muscles that keep your wrists from flopping around like those PR folks over at Ask do.
5/ Repeat as necessary.
If it wasn't for that exersize, I would likely have had to give up typing a few years ago.

Brace yourself, long winded analogy ahead...

We are in Sierra Leone which is in west Africa and we are talking about the multi-million dollar effort of DDR (disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration) that attempted to well, disarm, demobilize, and reintegrate the children soldiers so that an end could come to the massive amount of resources that are being robbed when convoys of supplies are being driven across the country, mostly by little kids with big guns.
They had all kinds of programs to do this but none of them were working, they sought my advice because the convoys for my company never got robbed.
While the powers that be were spending millions, I was spending hundreds. They were spending millions on programs that were ineffective. I was spending hundreds on comic books and candy. The kids liked me. I rocked.

What efforts are Ask taking with children? They are not going to get control of the market in the next five years, so why not regroup and decide to market to children. Imagine how many little kids hearts they could have won with the money they spent on marketing that didn't win us.
