Bob,
Great example with the Will It Blend Phenomenon, I'd love to get a hold of some of the figures those videos have had on sales.

Most YouTubers have heard of or seen one of their videos and that will be an everlasting example of a good social media campaign.

Good post, clear, actionable suggestions for people!
I work at Dogster, thanks for mentioning us! We've tried to build in as many cool features for people as we can. We have Dogster Local, which allows users to add their favorite local spots (and rate them), and we just launched Dogster Answers to allow people to ask questions, get answers, and then pick the most useful one. We also have members that make profiles for their pet product businesses and TV shows, which is another way for them to connect to our really passionate members.
Woof!

I enjoyed reading your advice SO MUCH! I live in northern MN (the Iron Range) and changing perceptions about Internet marketing and advertising here has been challenging. I own a local dining, nightlife and event guide RangeBuzz.com and communicating value to people who are unaware of terms like "social media" sends me wondering, "Where do I begin?"
Your post has helped give me fuel to keep doing what I'm trying to do. Thanks Lisa.
