It is business stupid..lanzone was fired because he did not make money. No matter how nice his smile was he was a lousy and naive manager going after PR and blogs only. Company under him was in total chaos. Guys who were supposed to come with algorithm were clueless and fooled him (I guess he was dumb enough to be fooled)

I dont know what dumbass wrote this article - this is not about advertizing at all. It is about business guys! for SE it means *volume of queries* - and lanzone did not crack it at all with his features and obsession with image.

I find it fascinating when gigantic companies ignore simple marketing basics such as human attachment and loyalty. Firing and otherwise losing valued employees ripples into the consumer world and reactions include mourning the loss of something the consumer or peers in the industry have become attached to. There are risks to this and I always wonder at the logic of some decisions and what appears to be a desire to sever ties with consumers and supporters. I still miss Jeeves...
If Geico loses the lizard, I'll be crushed.

Lisa, don't ever "just shut up" when you have an impulse like the one that fueled this post. Brilliant, because heartfelt!

Instead of replacing a search guy in the lead of one of the only alternatives to Google, couldn't they have just hired the marketing guy in managing the marketing?
This ranks up with killing Jeeves (well putting him in carbonite)..
