Happy Holidays 2009

Santa Clay

‘Twas the day before Christmas and white hat SEOs
Were excited for presents with ribbons and bows!
They had been nice, and Santa knew well
They were deserving of gifts and jingling bells!

At the Bruce Clay, Inc. holiday party they came,
Bringing good kin along for the games!
And who but Santa Clay did appear
With a bag full of fun and love for the New Year!

I just wanted to add one final dash of holiday cheer to the blog before leaving for the long holiday weekend. Here’s a quick handful of fun holiday finds…

Friday Recap: Midweek Minicap Edition

holiday party

Happy, er, Wednesday? With Christmas just around the corner it’s a short week for most, so you get your mini recap early.

This morning Bruce Clay, Inc. came together for some jolly making around the tree. Hot cocoa, apple cider and eggnog were all close at hand, though it was an otherwise dry gathering. Nowadays “dry” doesn’t necessarily mean alcohol-free. With the help of a newly developed technique, vodka and other liquors can now be distributed in pill form. Can you say “trouble”? [To clarify, there was no drinking going on at the party. --Susan] Please! I had a belly full of cocoa!

Why Now Is the Time to Join SEMPO

It’s nearly the end of the year, which marks another year that SEMPO has been a champion of the search engine optimization and Internet marketing industry. For years, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization has been a support and resource for the search engine marketing community, offering research, trend-reporting and education to SEOs and the larger business community.

If you have some money left in your pocket after holiday gift giving, or if you’re planning next year’s budget, consider the offerings of SEMPO membership and the SEMPO Institute. It’s an especially good time to consider the benefits SEMPO has to offer because a 25 percent discount is being offered on all SEMPO Institute courses if you register by December 31 with the discount code DEC09.

At this point you may be wondering what SEMPO can offer you. I figured that one of the best people up to the task of sharing the advantages of an organization like SEMPO is the president herself, Sara Holoubek. I asked Sara some questions about SEMPO, coming from the perspective of someone who may be familiar with the group, but who’s still curious about “What’s in it for me?!” I also got her to go behind the scenes of the SEMPO board and to give up a sneak peak of what SEMPO members and the larger SEO community can look forward to in 2010.

How SEO is Like a Smile

smiling puppy

When holiday cheer is in the air, I get in this state of mind where I hear jingle bells everywhere and the whole world is aglitter with tinsel. I have this constant stream of carols looping through my head and an urge to flavor everything with peppermint. But the holidays aren’t always a happy time for all.

The holidays are billed as a time of love and togetherness, which is great fun if you have someone to share it with. But when we’re reminded that others don’t have someone to share life and love with, we remember that the holidays are also about giving. As we remember all the things we have to be thankful for, we’re reminded that the world is full of people in need.

One of the simplest but most heart-felt gifts one can give, all year round, is a smile.

Now, don’t you worry if this was your reaction:

What do you mean, “Give a smile”? I’m an Internet marketer, not a GAP model! *

Not to worry. As it turns out, smiling has a lot in common with something you’re very familiar: search engine optimization!

Friday Recap: Special Snowflake Edition

bci at the kart racetrack

Happy Friday! This has been one of the longest, craziest weeks I’ve had in some time, and I know I’m not alone.

Not that I’m complaining. Being busy is better than being bored any day, especially when the busyness is due to a preponderance of fun! In just a few days, we decorated the office in festive fashion, laughed and played at the office holiday party, and experienced the spiritual awakening known as the bacon explosion. Join in on our holiday fun!

Earlier this week the BCI team headed out to the nearby go kart racetrack for this year’s holiday party! These pics tell the story…

Maryann, me, Dawn, Nasim, Steffani, Paula and Pam wait for the flag to start our heat…
