Nice post - good to get this back into everyone's minds again. It does feel like this went largely unnoticed, when it should be an extremely important addition to the markup of a lot of websites. I think a few of the problems are that a lot of the documentation available isn't that intuitive, Google don't guarantee rich snippets for marked up content, and the testing tool is a bit buggy. Therefore, why plough a considerable amount of resource into this when there's no guaranteed outcome?

Since it is up to Google IF you get a rich snippet or not, it's not really worth the time and effort yet, I think.

Given that you're a huge company with a strong brand - well, chances are Google actually WANT to find stuff to create rich snippets for you.

Given that you're an average joe company - at this point I would say there are better things to spend your time on (since you don't even know if Google will use the info) - BUT, if you're re-doing your entire website, go right ahead and read up on how to "help" Google create rich snippets for your search results.
