SEO & Social Media Track: Show Me The Links: Real Life Link Building

SMX

Danny notes it’s time to think differently about links rather than to think about Digging stuff.

First up, Roger Montii, @martinibuster. Notes he does “White Label Link Development.” He’s talking strategies. They use 8 or 9 link campaigns, some of which are:

1. Target Searching

Target sites that link to relevant resources:
allintitle: “relevant keyword” resources site:.org

  • Good way to find sites that are resources to businesses.
  • Likes to limit it to dot org or limit to dot edu.
  • If search returns more than a 1,000 responses. Yahoo! will only show 1,000, and you’ll be missing things. Add more keywords to work that result down to better find hidden opportunities.

Pay Per Click Track: Pump Up Those Conversions!

Conversions panel

Welcome back from lunch, good people. As always, SMX laid out a great spread with food fit for kings and… okay, you got me. I totally just ate popcorn. And I’m going to get more tomorrow. And possibly between sessions. But enough about my butter and salt addiction, we’ve got conversions to talk about.

The speakers are:
Scott Brinker, President & CTO, ion interactive, inc. (@chiefmartec)
Christine Churchill, President, KeyRelevance.com (@keyrelevance)
Vic Drabicky, Director of International and Vertical Market Development, Range Online Media (@vicdrabicky)
Scott Miller, CEO, Vertster.com (@optimizeit)

SEO and Social Media Track: Twitter, Real Time Search & Real Time SEO

this is search slide

Yahoo is making popcorn at their booth. You have NO idea how tempted I am to forget this liveblogging sessions and go liveblog a bag of popcorn instead. Popcorn is totally my downfall. But because I love you guys, I’m going to be strong.

Apparently people are complaining about the pre-roll sponsored mini-pitches that I didn’t blog last session. Whatever, people. Just play on your phone for a minute if you don’t want to listen. There’s one of them now and like last time, I’m not blogging it.

Universal Search – Get yourself a pin on the map

local

SMX has long since come and gone, but there are still some points to cover, or at least worth an honourable mention. Next up on the agenda is Local search – getting your business a pin on the map could give you that boost you need, in more ways than one. First of all it’s [...]

Internet Marketing Business Track: Opening the Contract Kimono: Translating Your Pricing Model to Legal Agreement

SMX

OK so here I am, at SMX Advanced, in Seattle. I wasn’t expecting to be liveblogging, yet that’s exactly what I’m doing for this first morning session.

Warning – I have never liveblogged at a conference before. In fact, I expect I’ll fail miserably at this. So we’ll pretend it’s the effort that counts, not the results, okay boys and girls?

Search Engine Optimization Track: SEO For Google Vs. Bing: How Different Are They?

research goals slide

It’s day one of SMX and we’re ready to begin in the SEO track with a head to head, no holds barred battle between Google and Bing. Blood will be shed. Marketshares will be insulted. Mothers will weep and hide their children.

Or perhaps I’m just feeling a bit bloody minded because we’re down two livebloggers this week. Both Lisa Barone and our own Virginia Nussey are on the DL for this conference so I’m going to do my best to be in three places at once. We’ll have some emergency liveblogging help though, so keep an eye out for coverage from familiar industry faces. Barry Schwartz has decided to step up and liveblog as well so there will be coverage at SER for the ‘watch it as it happens’ fans. The SMX team has reserved the entire front row for livebloggers and press so I’m sitting pretty with coffee, a bagel and power.

Friday Recap: Caffeine Jolt Edition

smiling coffee

Howdy on this fine Friday! It’s almost time to get your weekend on, but first, get some light reading in, ‘kay?

We were introduced to a new dinosaur species this week, and isn’t he a handsome specimen? Beak-like face and a name that translates to “grinding-mouth, wrinkle-eye” — Jeyawati was a cutie!

I fear we’re all headed in the direction of the dinosaurs if they can’t clean up the Gulf Coast oil disaster and stop the flow of oil. There’s not much we can do about that mess at the moment, so go ahead and plant a tree. Mother Nature could use any boost she can get right now.

Did you have a cup of coffee or three this morning to give you a boost? A new study suggests that the stimulation felt from caffeine may be just an illusion. The researchers say that regular coffee drinkers that get their caffeine fix every morning may simply be alleviating the fatiguing effects of caffeine withdrawal, giving the effect of alertness while actually just bringing them back to normal. Susan and Jessica are highly skeptical. And admitted coffee addicts… Just saying. ;)
