I'm with Rand 100% with what he has been saying. I too have been seeing that the age of the domain is much less significant than what it used to be. In fact, I just blogged about it! Doesn't Google pull straight from Twitter's DB? Even though they are rel="nofollow" they probably do have a specific way of handling Twitter links. Google will undoubtedly get better at ranking social media links by popularity of those links on the social media platform and my guess is Twitter will be the guinea pig.
