All due respect to business owners and executives out there, but SEO and Internet marketing in general is a real threat to some of you. And it’s understandable.
It’s asking you to adapt and change your business to conform to new standards and practices. It’s asking you to give up total control of your business’ website, the one you poured your heart and soul into. It’s asking you to step down as the CEO of all things Web and trust someone else with the success of your site.
It’s not easy. But, it’s time.

So you’re not happy with your SEO firm and have decided to search for another to take on your project. You’ve done your homework, researched and picked a few SEO service providers, interviewed them, reviewed their proposals and finally, selected one. Now you’re ready to cancel your current service agreement and transition the site to the new (and hopefully better) SEO company.

Today is going fast at SMX. Gone are the days of luxury when I had an hour break between sessions. They mean business today because the last session wraps up at 3:30 p.m. PT. This session, we’re told, will be less about SEO tactics and tools, and more about the integral workings of in-house SEO from idea to launch. Stretching fingers; let’s do it.

At Bruce Clay, Inc., we’ve seen results with clients who are as committed to in-house SEO success as we are. As an SEO agency, we work to better educate our clients so that it creates a ripple effect within their corporate business structure. Internet marketing and SEO are becoming more and more crucial to businesses in every industry, and we focus on putting the power into the hands of our clients.
One such client is Salem Web Network (SWN). SWN has been a long-term client of ours who experienced incredible results because of their willingness to learn, adapt and implement.
When in-house marketers such as the team at SWN are proactive in understanding the process, are open to taking suggestions from the people who understand SEO, and truly work with agencies as a part of their team and vice versa, everyone succeeds.

Bruce Clay recently gave a talk on “Tools of the Trade” at the Online Marketing Summit (OMS) in San Diego on February 7. I got a hold of his presentation slides and one in particular stood out to me with some great talking points that I’d like to expand on.
You may or may not know we just launched our newest version of the SEOToolSet. The talk Bruce gave discussed the other, maybe lesser-known tools that businesses must have in order to be successful in SEO – prior to any subscription-based services are even needed.
This includes things like:
-Management support and organization-wide commitment.
-Training and education for all involved.
-Access to expert knowledge base.
-Reasonable expectations and willingness to adapt.

If you’re a renter like me, you’ve heard this from well-meaning homeowners: you are “wasting your money” renting instead of taking advantage of this all-time-low housing market and its super-low interest rates. In a way, this is a problem that small business owners face as well. Do you contract an agency or SEO consultant for your search marketing efforts (rent) or do you put a ring on it and hire an in-house employee (buy)? Let’s take a look at a few pros and cons to get started.
