Attracting, training and retaining AI-literate talent is easier when an organization values innovation at its core and fosters continuous skills development.

What I Think

Finding AI-literate professionals begins with understanding what drives and motivates any top talent to join a company. 

As always, providing opportunities for meaningful work and professional growth are key attractors, and companies that offer pathways for career advancement stand out to new candidates. 

But beyond that, talent can come from within. Training is the cornerstone of developing a competent AI team. 

You can prioritize identifying existing users of AI or AI enthusiasts within the company, and ensure they are upskilling to match company needs (and further their careers).

I believe a combination of formal training programs, hands-on projects and collaborative learning environments maximizes skills development and engagement.

And then retention often hinges on creating a workplace culture where employees feel valued and supported. 

From my perspective, fostering open communication and providing recognition for achievements are very effective retention strategies. 

AI-literate employees typically value innovation, and so a workplace that continues to invest in new technologies or ways of operating usually wins at the retention game.

Clearly Communicate the Opportunity

A job description is, of course, one of the first impressions on potential candidates, so be sure to clearly outline the opportunities for growth.  

As appropriate, highlight the prioritization of cutting-edge technologies and the impact of the potential candidate’s work on the business. 

Include details about the company’s ethical commitment to AI practices as well as its desire for continuous innovation and agility, if appropriate.

Many potential candidates want to know that they can make an impact quickly and not have to deal with a lot of red tape in order to make progress.

Find the Right Fit

During the hiring process, you’ll want to focus on identifying candidates who have a blend of technical expertise and a willingness to continuously learn and innovate. 

This combination is key to adapting in the dynamic field of AI. 

Of course, as with any job position, you’ll want to evaluate the soft skills that align with the organization’s and team’s values and goals.

Make Training a Priority

AI-literate candidates already come with a desirable skill set, but continuing education keeps them sharp. 

In addition, you can quickly upskill internal employees to begin contributing to AI initiatives.
