SEO-Ready CMS and Good Beer – SEM Synergy Extras
Hi, boys and girls! Today’s SEM Synergy was packed full of excitement: We learned about the importance of an SEO-friendly CMS for your website, discussed recent and upcoming Bruce gigs at all the cool conferences, and talked changes to the Google keyword tool.
Our guest today was Mark Knowles, CEO and president of Pixelsilk and all-around great guy. This was the first SEM Synergy show where I took on the guest interview and sat in with Bruce in Susan’s absence. It was a lot of fun!
It didn’t hurt that Mark was my first-ever interview because he’s not only hilarious, but really easy to talk with. He came into our offices to record the segment and was able to fill in our listeners on all the fun that happened at Bend WebCAM in late September/early October.
In case you’re not familiar, Bend WebCAM is a newer industry conference held in Bend, Ore., and Mark was a big part in launching it. Now in its second year, it’s already drawing some awesome speakers, including one of this year’s keynote speakers, Jason Bagley of Weiden + Kennedy, the agency behind the Old Spice campaign.
Mark also told us about Pixelsilk’s custom beer for the conference (because beer around those parts is no joke), one of which was named “HTM Ale”. Susan thinks I should have had him send us some (Mark, if you’re listening, you know where we are).
And of course, we did talk business. One of the things he covered was why an SEO-ready CMS is important in conjunction with SEO efforts for a site. Mark talked about the need for the SEO community to have 100 percent control over the way HTML is presented to a Web browser. And from that need, Pixelslik was born.
With a CMS like Pixelsilk, it allows companies and professionals of all types to harness the control of a hand-coded site with the benefits of content management. And this type of control even spills over into the design aspects of a website, giving users a blank slate to do whatever they please.
Mark also touched on the type of professional who would benefit the most from a CMS like this, and it includes everyone from “Oscar the Optimizer” and “Ed the Editor” to “Webster the Web Developer” and “Sadie the Site Administrator,” and more.
Last but not least, Mark is offering a $100 gift card to Apple or Amazon if you can help him get back into the Pixelsilk Twitter account, which is currently in administrative limbo. Not a bad deal, eh? You can check out the active @PixelsilkCMS account in the meantime (Mark had to add the “CMS” after the whole locked-out situation with the first account).
Conferences up the Ying Yang
‘Tis the season, Bruce said. I suggested a conference-season jingle, but haven’t had the time to compose it yet. Open to suggestions. Bruce has been all over the country the past few months and it’s not over yet. SMX East in NYC was a hit (especially Bruce’s one-day SEO training – thanks everyone for the positive feedback). SES Chicago is wrapping up and then it’s off to New York again for ad:tech and then Bruce polishes up his alibi for PubCon in Vegas. We’ve got discounts for all our loyal peeps:
